I’m always thinking of you, Sarah, and your family. My sadness over 10/7 and every day since is often met with “If Sarah can find joy, if Sarah can smile… then so can I!” You inspire me and I thank you for continuing to find ways to fight for and spread joy - Jewish joy, children’s joy, people’s joy - because that is really why we’re here: to find JOY in G-d’s creation - no matter what G-d you pray to.
Ah thank you. It’s so strange I’m filled with a strange deep joy even as Iran threatens us with (I heard 1500) missiles. As if it’s so out of my hands I hand it to God and ask Him to put His mighty hand over us and all of Israel and all Jews. We have suffered enough. The joy keeps me sane. The joy is my red roses blooming now. It’s very real as real as the sore, sad losses. We learn to hold both. I just made muesli — because my sons love muesli and they should have that if we need to shelter for a while. Sending lots of love and strength and prayers.
This post made me cry, but then smile when you wrote of food and children’s books. I feel for you and what you have to deal with, what you all have always had to deal with. I pray for Israel daily. May God bless and keep you all.
I also smiled at Gail’s suggestion. Please do it. It will take a lot of focus to collaborate and bring it together, and bring some joy in the process to the contributors, but also joy later to those of us who will purchase the book and try all of your recipes. (The one with the grape leaves sounds delicious!)
I will certainly buy your cookbook. I hope you will include little stories too. It really is a great idea.
Thanks for your message. Well let’s see how we can make it happen! I’m working on my personal book of grandmother stories and recipes - but this communal one is a beautiful idea. I’ll think of the easiest way everyone can contribute and how best to have it printed and published. Your enthusiasm is contagious and so encouraging. Thank you for your beautiful message.
A beautiful post. I, too, am cooking and cooking. Do you remember those sisterhood cookbooks? I think we should all pull together our current wartime recipes, the ones that take hours of focus, the dishes peppered with our tears and seasoned in the hope only a Jewish mother can hold. Hugs.
Yes exactly. I think it would be a beautiful thing to combine our recipes and stories from this very historical and difficult time. A sisterhood cookbook for courage and how to keep cooking joy for our loved ones, and communities around us! Sending hugs and appreciation for your message right back at ya!
Sending you BIG HUGS.
Ah thank you Erika. Feeling them. Sending right back to you!
